I have had a couple different ideas for runner games over the course of the semester. I have always loved games like Crash Bandicoot and Rachet and Clank. So, my first two will be inspired off that format. The adventure and challenge all at once was and still is very intriguing. My first idea is a game called Ruin Race. This game is a fast-paced adventure title following the journey of Rayce, a skilled marksman pressed into thievery from impoverished conditions and the dangers of the medieval world. The player will control Rayce on his journey to recover wealth and treasure from the ruins and excess of the nobility ruling this land, bringing back wealth to his home, the people, and eventually, challenging the authority of the King himself. Rayces’ journeys through the ruins will generally take a linear runner format, with emphasis on moving forward, however backtracking, or retracting steps might be appropriate in terms of collectibles or hidden items of value. In particularly long levels or more dangerous sections, checkpoints will be found to prevent player frustration. Another idea for a linear runner is called Graveyard Shift. You play a ghost roaming different graveyards and the objective is to pass through a level without running out of Ectoplasm so you can move to different Graveyards to Haunt. The Ectoplasm you collect will keep the ghost alive and allows the ghost to get bigger and bigger as he gains energy. However, as you play you will notice the ghost gets smaller and smaller if he encounters too many tombstones along the way. The story is that you play a little ghost named Clyde that gets to haunt his graveyard every night after the sun goes down. Clyde needs to eat ectoplasm to grow so he can haunt his graveyard for a longer period instead of being inside his coffin. Avoid tombstones, hitting them will decrease Clyde’s energy and dissolve his ghostly form. My Third Idea is Dota Inspired. You play as a Summoner seeking to ascend a fabled tower in search of power. You search far and wide, and eventually discover it, hidden deep in the earth. You cannot find an entrance, but feel the immense aura of the tower, and touch it, seeking any sort of insight. It is a 3-D Lane Based Merging Tower Defense game, ascend the tower of a cosmic being in search of power Place units on the battlefield to defend yourself from legions of enemies. You as the player would buy and combine 3 of the same unit to create a stronger version of it. Reach the top and defeat the cosmic being to receive rewards to buy permanent upgrades and unlock higher difficulties, allowing you to beat the being once and for all.
